Tenure-Track Faculty Member

Website Georgetown University Law Center

Georgetown Law invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position beginning July 1, 2027, in the Criminal Justice and Criminal Defense and Prisoner Advocacy Clinics, which have been a long-standing part of Georgetown Law’s top-ranked clinical program.

Both clinics represent clients charged with misdemeanor offenses in the District of Columbia Superior Court. Georgetown Law is seeking a faculty member who will supervise students in their client representation and supervise clinical fellows—junior attorneys in the E. Barrett Prettyman program—who represent clients charged with both misdemeanors and felonies in Superior Court. The faculty member will also help teach the two clinic seminars and fellows’ training program.

Georgetown Law has operated its top-ranked in-house clinical program for more than 50 years. Through this program, students learn the practical art of lawyering while providing quality legal representation to under-represented individuals and organizations. We offer 17 different clinics and more than 300 law students participate in our clinics every year.

Qualifications

Prior experience with clinical teaching is desirable.  Because these are active criminal defense trial clinics, we are seeking candidates with strong criminal defense trial skills and experience. Successful candidates should enjoy working closely with law students, have experience supervising others, and possess the management skills required to help keep the clinics running smoothly. This appointment is on the tenure track. Candidates must demonstrate an excellent potential for scholarly achievement.  The faculty member will be expected to produce high-quality scholarship and to engage in the academic life of the law school.  Any person hired for this position must be, or become, a member of the D.C. Bar.

Application Instructions

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three references, a one-to-two page statement about the candidate’s clinical pedagogy, and a scholarly agenda through this portal. Questions regarding this position should be directed to Erica Hashimoto, Chair of the Appointments Committee – Clinical.
